BBC Radio to give you every domestic ball in 2009

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that BBC Radio will be increasing their coverage of Yorkshire cricket in 2009 to include live ball-by-ball commentary on all of our matches.

Last summer BBC Local Radio introduced live commentary for Yorkshire’s LV County Championship and Twenty20 Cup matches, both home and away, in response to considerable public demand. The unanimously positive response to this service has led to the BBC’s decision to go the whole hog in 2009, where they will provide live online commentary for every competitive Yorkshire game, adding the Friends Provident Trophy and the NatWest Pro40 to their busy cricket schedule. In addition, the BBC Radio Cricket Correspondent, Dave Callaghan, will continue to provide his regular updates to the BBC’s five local Yorkshire stations – Humberside, Leeds, Sheffield, Tees and York.

Stewart Regan, Yorkshire’s Chief Executive, said: “I would like to thank the BBC for their continued support of Yorkshire cricket which is great news for our supporters. In a county so vast and when we have ex-pats in all corners of the globe – it means that everyone can follow the side wherever they are. I’d also like to praise Dave Callaghan for his Herculean efforts – his undying commitment is incredible when you consider his heavy workload, but his obvious enthusiasm for Yorkshire cricket is infectious and is a great asset to the Club.”

Derm Tanner, BBC Radio Leeds Sports Editor said: Yorkshire cricket is very important to the radio station and that’s why we want to offer as much cricket coverage as we can. In addition to our increased online service, we plan to improve our 20/20 on air coverage too.  It’s a lot more work for Dave “Cally” Callaghan, but if anyone can Cally can.”
