Darren Lehmann's 339 bat and kit join historic displays in Long Room

THE BAT used by Darren Lehmann for his record-breaking 339 at Headingley in 2006 - together with his kit during that historic innings - have been given to the Club, and are now on display.
The Long Room has been enhanced by the installation of Test Honours Boards, which feature all those who have scored centuries or taken 10 wickets in a match, five in an innings or a hat-trick in Tests at Headingley.
The boards were unveiled by the Club President, Bob Appleyard, on the first morning of the 2006 Test match, and the committee were particularly appreciative of the contributions of David Allan and Roy Wilkinson to this project.
The Long Room cabinets featured displays of memorabilia of George Hirst, Hedley Verity and Fred Trueman. Also introduced were two boards displaying information on the current first-class match and its equivalent a century ago. The committee hope to repeat the exercise in 2007. Following the sad death of Fred Trueman, a Book of Condolence was opened at Headingley, and presented to Mrs Veronica Trueman later in the season.
Hirst's achievement of 2,000 runs and 200 wickets in the 1906 season was marked by ceremonies and scorebook reproductions at Headingley and Scarborough, with members of the Hirst family attending on both occasions. Some of the proceeds from Stephen Chalke's booklet, A Summer of Plenty - a record of Hirst's career that season, were donated to the committee, a gesture greatly appreciated.
The committee is co-operating with Leeds Metropolitan University to provide historical data for the website, and the committee continues to provide information on Yorkshire cricket history to a wide range of enquirers. The committee is assisting the Club in plans to initiate a Headingley tour.
The committee arranged four lecture evenings last winter: Ashes Prospects, led by England selector Geoff Miller; Writing from Memory by Stephen Chalke, Bradman by John Grimsley, of the Bradman Bowral Museum, and Len Hutton Remembered by Keith Moss and Richard Hutton.
