YORKSHIRE 1890: It was to be three years before Lord Hawke clinched the first of the eight Championship titles that were to come Yorkshire's way during his 27-year reign as captain.
TEAM AGGREGATE RECORD: The Yorkshide side under Lord Hawke that scored 887 at Edgbaston in 1896, the highest score by a First Class county. It is difficult to realise that the laws at that time did not provide for a declaration, so Lord Hawke had to bat on.
CHAMPIONS 1925: Fourth time on the trot, but the only title achieved under the captaincy of Major AW Lupton. Look at all the autographs!
CHAMPIONS 1925: ...or study this sharper print unearthed almost by chance by Mrs David Hall. Back row, left to right: E Oldroyd, M Leyland, H Sutcliffe, G G Macaulay, H Taylor, W Ringrose (scorer). Front row: Emmott Robinson, P Holmes, W Rhodes, Major AW Lupton (captain), A Dolphin, R Kilner and A Waddington.
JOINT CHAMPIONS 1949: Yorkshire carried on where they left off in 1939 by winning the Championship for the fourth successive time on the resumption of First Class cricket in 1946. Then, as noted pre-war players made way for Colts, came a period of team rebuilding under a new captain, Norman Yardley. The team in this photograph shared the Championship with Middlesex in 1949. Little did they know that another decade was to pass before Yorkshire's next Championship success. By 1959 only Vic Wilson remained of the squad of 10 years before. Back row, left to right: B Heyhirst (masseur), H Halliday, GA Smithson, JV Wilson, R Aspinall, EI Lester and H Walker (scorer). Front row: W Watson, A Coxon, DV Brennan, NWD Yardley (captain), L Hutton, EP Robinson and JH Wardle.
