Sewerby CC
Sewerby Cricket Pavilion the star of the Aunt Bessies Great Yorkshire Tea Earn Competition 2008
If you've seen the Aunt Bessies Great Yorkshire Tea Earn Competition advertised and wondered where the delightful pavilion is on the campaign then look no further.
Sewerby Cricket Club won the Cricket Pavilion competition to feature as the backdrop to the 2008 Tea Earn Competition flyer and poster campaign. The beautiful pavilion really sets the scene for our Yorkshire players and 'Aunt Bessie' enjoying their tea and scones and is a great representation of Yorkshire Cricket.
Sewerby's East Yorkshire Cricket ground on Sewerby cliff top overlooking the North Sea, lies in front of the Georgian grandeur of Sewerby Hall and boasts a panoramic view extending from the spectacular white chalk cliffs of Flamborough Head and across the sweep of Bridlington Bay towards Spurn Head. The ground is close to the cliff edge and many batsmen have tried, without success, to hit the ball on the full into the sea.
The playing surface is arguably the best in the area, regularly providing a feast of runs for the delight of the many spectators who are able to take advantage of the seating which extends all round the boundary.
The Club is proud of its brand-new pavilion incorporating excellent changing facilities for players and officials. The tea room is renowned for its standard of refreshment and the score box, with electronic score board, has a view it is difficult to surpass.
The Club caters for cricketers and cricket lovers of all ages.
Sewerby has been awarded Focus Club status by the YCB and three years ago achieved the nationally-recognised Clubmark Accreditation. The Club is one of the first in Yorkshire to gain re-Accreditation.
In addition, the Club has achieved level 2 of the East Riding Club Accreditation Scheme.
Two new cricket nets have recently been installed and coaching is available on Tuesday evenings for boys and girls from the age of eight years and upwards, who eventually graduate to play in the Under 11 XI, Under13 XI and then the Under 15 XI. Junior League matches are often played on Sunday mornings. Parental help and family involvement are welcomed.
Senior practices are held on Monday and Friday evenings.
The Club First XI plays in the "Hunters" York and District Senior League, the Second XI in the "Readers" Scarborough Beckett League and the newly formed Third Team has entered the Derwent Valley league. Matches are played on Saturday afternoons.
There is nearly always a "friendly" game or Cup Match on Sunday afternoons at Sewerby.
The Club enters a mid-week team into the Bridlington and District Evening League.
In addition there are many social and fund raising activities throughout the year; the biggest of these latter being the Annual Sewerby Gala held on the last Sunday in July. Many thousands of people visit this event and are well entertained. Arrangements for this year's Gala - to be held on Sunday 27th July from 10.00 am - are well under way.
Sewerby is a well-organised, progressive and friendly Club, keen to recruit new players and non-playing members. Further details can be obtained by visiting the club website: www.sewerbycc.co.uk
