Northern Cricket Society
Congratulations to the Northern Cricket Society team and everyone at North Leeds who raised £355.40 for St Gemma's Hospice through the annual Boxing Day match.
The Society looked set to lose the match - until Matthew Draper (Gallery Picture 1) turned it back in their favour with his spectacular 6-34.

DYNAMIC DUO STAND DOWN
Treasurer John Rex, left in Gallery Picture 2, and Secretary Harry Jackson received awards to mark their retirements from office at the Society’s 2011 Annual General Meeting.
Chairman Andrew Mawson paid tribute at the meeting to Harry for his hard work and dedication as Secretary over the last 16 years and to John, who stood down after keeping the Society on a secure financial footing since 2002.
John has now handed the Treasurer’s books to Chris Sawyer, but the Society continues its search for a successor to Harry. Both Harry and John received presentations from the Chairman in appreciation of their long service.

The Northern Cricket Society was formed in 1948 as an offshoot from the Cricket Society, which was too far away for many Northern members to reach.
Other Yorkshire cricket societies such as the Hull and East Riding, the Sheffield and the Wombwell were formed during the next few years.
Chairman of the Northern is Andrew Mawson, who succeeded Yorkshire Vice-President Tony Vann at the 2008 Annual General Meeting. Membership is open to anyone, male or female, of all ages, and the society's 2010-11 winter programme was well attended in the East Stand Long Room at Headingley Carnegie.
Speakers include First Class players and ex-players, broadcasters and writers on the game, umpires, administrators and anyone with a tale to tell. Members also hold a spring dinner in March or April with two guest speakers, and - most quirky of all - an annual Boxing Day match at North Leeds.
The Boxing Day match goes ahead regardless of weather - and for the most altruistic of causes. Each Boxing Day the Northern, North Leeds CC and the Lions Club hold a raffle which they dedicate to St Gemma's Hospice.
All meetings are held in the East Stand Long Room of Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground, and begin at 7.45pm, nearly always on a Tuesday. The Society continues to bring to our members speakers from the various divisions of the game. It is an opportunity not only to listen to informed comment - but to ask the questions you have been longing to ask.
You are sure of a winter of enjoyable evenings if you join the Northern Cricket Society. Membership costs £15 a year.
