Pennine Cricket Society
A new cricket society has been founded in Huddersfield. The Pennine Cricket Society will cater for cricket enthusiasts of all types - and will meet at Swallow Lane, home of Golcar Cricket Club. It will hold monthly meetings outside the cricket season - from October to March.
"This is a very exciting development," said main organiser Dr Peter Davies. "The aim is to put on some attractive speakers and get people talking about cricket."
The society's first meeting is scheduled for Thursday 27 October - and it will then meet monthly until the start of the 2012 cricket season.
Speakers are to include acclaimed after-dinner speaker Alan Stuttard, Central Lancashire League aficianado Dave Cooper, Hanif Mayet and Farid Karolia from Batley club Mount CC, Todmorden authors Brian, Malcolm and Freda Heywood, Illingworth CC historian Andrew Smith, and cricket website designer Lee Booth.
Meetings will take place at Golcar between 7pm and 8pm and there will also be refreshemnts and supper at each meeting.
"It's all very exciting," said Dr Davies.
"We have some knowledgeable and thought-provoking speakers planned and, with the food and company on offer, we can promise some enjoyable nights."
