Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale and England womens' cricketer Katherine Brunt joined pupils from Alwoodley Primary School (Drax Cup Champions 2011) and Snaith Primary School to launch this year's Drax Cup competition.

Andrew and Katherine, both ambassadors for the Drax Cup, were at Headingley encouraging schools across the county to enter this year’s tournament for Under-9s.

Schools need to enter by Friday 23 March. This can be done by email to draxcup@yorkshirecb.com or by contacting the Yorkshire Cricket Board cricket development manager.

Peter Emery, Production Director of Drax, said: “This is the sixth year of the cup and we estimate that at least 12,500 children have participated to date. Youth sport and education are two important themes of our suppport for communities and this is an ideal way to bring them together.”

The competition begins after Easter and runs until July. Teams play in a series of round robin events to produce four area winners, one from each region of Yorkshire. It is sponsored by Drax Power Ltd and organised by Yorkshire CCC in conjunction with the Yorkshire Cricket Board and Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
