2ND: Hannon-Dalby leads record Trophy rout
News categories
Oliver Hannon-Dalby, above, with his third four-wicket haul in as many innings, led Yorkshire’s rout of Unicorns A in their Second Eleven Trophy match at Sheffield Collegiate where Yorkshire again were the designated visitors.
Unicorns were dismissed for 52 in 24.4 overs - the lowest score ever recorded against Yorkshire in the one-day Trophy in this, its 27th, year.
This is 12 months after the same Unicorns A inflicted Yorkshire’s heaviest defeat in the same competition when they won by 169 runs at Todmorden. My predecessor, MICHAEL SNOOK, who was on duty today to operate the scoreboard, will have enjoyed this little gem.
The carnage began in the first over when Hannon-Dalby’s last ball was too much for Wadlan. Dan Hodgson and Joe Sayers had some catching practice as they gobbled snicks galore, and the Unicorns lost half their side for 29.
Only three partnerships and three batsmen reached double figures, and all the bowlers enjoyed their day out. The only downside came when Alex Lilley limped off half-way through his fifth over: time will tell if he is fit to play against Lancashire next week.
The Unicorns’ innings closed at 1.36 pm - an hour before the scheduled lunch break. The umpires ruled that after the normal 10-minute interval between innings play would continue until 2.40pm and be extended, if necessary, to complete the game. Yorkshire knocked off the runs in 11.2 overs. So the match was over by 2.31pm.
We were joined for lunch by 2005 Ashes-winning captain Michael Vaughan and ICC Elite Panel Umpire Richard Kettleborough and his young son - Vaughan and Kettleborough each played at Collegiate in their formative years. The club has a fair tradition for producing talented cricketers – the latest being Joe Root.
Tthree wins on the bounce for Yorkshire Seconds - but Lancashire and Warwickshire, our last two competitive opponents for this season, will provide sterner opposition. Yorkshire must face them with a deal more confidence than a month ago.
Do not forget that on match days the Second Eleven scores are available via Total Cricket Live Scores. Here's how to keep up with scorer and Yorkshire County Cricket Club website correspondent HOWARD CLAYTON:
