2ND: Rain and D/L sweep Yorkshire to defeat

Gurman Randhawa: Left-arm spinner who topped Yorkshire's batting

Left-arm spinner Gurman Randhawa, above, hit Yorkshire's top score in their last Second Eleven Trophy match of the season – against Warwickshire at Weetwood – but the story of 2012 continued as rain ruined the second half. Yorkshire went down by 56 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis Method.

The day began in glorious sunshine, but the rain arrived at 4.05pm just as the umpires met to discuss the worsening light. All scurried for the pavilion, and the rain was heavy enough to ensure that no further play would be possible.

Warwickshire won the toss , and asked Yorkshire to take first knock on a wicket that had a darkish hue. Openers Alex Lees and Joe Sayers found scoring difficult, and both played and missed. After the first power-play they gradually were coming to grips with the conditions, and runs were starting to come. Then wickets started to fall regularly.

Lees and Sayers put on 27, but eight more wickets fell for 58 runs and at 85-9 an early finish looked on the cards. Randhawa, 30, and Oliver Hannon-Dalby, 15, restored some pride with an unbroken last-wicket stand of 40 to save their side from setting an all-time-low record for Yorkshire in the competition.

The last-wicket stand of 40 is a record for Yorkshire against Warwickshire in the One-Day Trophy. Jack Grundy returned a splendid 5-17 from his full allocation of eight overs for the visitors.

Warwickshire began as if expecting rain. They ensured that by the time the necessary minimum of 10 overs had been completed they were ahead under Duckworth-Lewis, and so they remained. A blistering half-century by Jonathan Webb - 52 from 44 balls with six fours and one six - saw his team home.

Josh Shaw, although he only sent down two overs, looked the most accurate bowler on view but his 1-4 was little comfort after another heavy defeat.
