All-rounder Neil Hartley takes the players' chair

Players' Chairman: Neil Hartley, right, with former Yorkshire and England fast bowler Chris Silverwood

Neil Hartley (above right with Chris Silverwood), the former Yorkshire all-rounder and vice-captain, has been elected chairman of Yorkshire County Cricket Club Players’ Association.

Neil succeeds Bryan Stott, who stood down at the Association’s annual meeting last month after holding office since the organisation was founded eight years’ ago. Neil, who made his Yorkshire debut in 1978 and went on to play in 133 First Class matches over the next decade, scored 4,193 runs with four centuries and took 42 wickets. He was capped in 1982.

An outstanding fielder, Neil also gave excellent service in limited-overs cricket, scoring 2,810 runs with 13 half-centuries and claiming 67 wickets.

Born in Shipley, Neil played for Bingley in the Bradford League, and between 1974 and 1979 he three times scooped the Priestley Cup final man-of-the-match award. He enjoyed spells in South Africa with Orange Free State during the early 1980s.
