Bairstow gets England call for Ireland ODI

Jonny Bairstow celebrates his double century

The England selectors today announced the One-Day International squad to play Ireland in Dublin on Thursday August 25. Eoin Morgan has been named captain of a 13-man England squad and Jonny Bairstow called up for the first time to the full England side.

Morgan, who is England's Twenty20 vice-captain, will lead an England team for the first time as a number of players currently involved in the npower Test series against India are rested ahead of the NatWest Series.

The England squad includes several players yet to make their international debut including Leicestershire's James Taylor, Yorkshire's Jonathan Bairstow and Durham's Ben Stokes and Scott Borthwick, all having recently featured in the England Lions' ODI series win over Sri Lanka 'A'.

England National Selector, Geoff Miller, said: "The squad we're looking to take to Ireland involves a number of exciting young England players as we rest several players currently involved in the npower Test series against India. By resting several players that have played international cricket since the start of the summer the opportunity has arisen for a number of talented up and coming players to continue their development on the international stage. We know from previous encounters that Ireland are a tough ODI outfit and we'll be fielding a very strong England side that will need to play well."

England team director Andy Flower will be rested from the Ireland match before rejoining the England squad ahead of the NatWest International T20 fixture against India on August 31. England assistant coach Richard Halsall will stand in as team director for the Ireland match in Andy Flower's absence.
