Barbados: Derbyshire take 5th T20 spot
It was a different Yorkshire but the same result as Derbyshire secured 5th place in the Barbados Twenty20 Cup by 7 wickets at the 3 Ws Oval.
Graham Wagg was Derbyshire's top scorer with 40 not out in 17 balls to lead his side home with just under three overs to spare. Garry Park (29 from 25 balls), Greg Smith (21 from 16) and Jon Sadler (36 from 31) ensured Derbyshire were spared the embarrassment of finishing bottom of the Twenty20 pile.
Lee Hodgson was the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers, taking 1-20 in his three overs.
After losing the toss Andrew Gale had been in sublime form as he made 88 from 61 balls to take Yorkshire to 154 and into a strong position in today's Plate Final. He reached his fifty from just 33 balls which included 5 fours and 3 sixes and went to his half century with a maximum over mid-wicket of the bowling of Steffan Jones.
After Adam Lyth (4) went early, Gale and Jonathan Bairstow added 85 in 65 balls for the second wicket before the latter was bowled for 30 off 26 deliveries including 2 fours and 2 sixes.
Joe Sayers (12) joined Gale and rotated the strike well before being adjudged lbw and then the skipper finally departed after being bowled looking to up the runrate at the death.
The not out batsmen were Adil Rashid (7) and Gary Ballance (6).
After defeat yesterday the side have shown great determination to bounce straight back and put in a quality performance. Using the old cliche, there were far more positives to be taken out of today's match than the defeat to University of West Indies.
