Barney Gibson the youngest ever in England

Barney Gibson takes a stunning first catch in first class cricket

Barney Gibson not only made Yorkshire history on Wednesday but English history too, becoming the youngest ever player to feature in a first-class cricket fixture at the tender age of 15 years and 27 days old.

He beat a 144-year record held by Charles Young who was 15 years and 131 days old when he played for Hampshire against Kent in 1867.

When we arrived at the Racecourse Ground everyone believed that Barney had beaten Paul Jarvis for the tag of Yorkshire's youngest. It was only after a bit of checking on Google that we appreciated the enormity of the occasion.

Many congratulations to Barney from everyone at the Club. Also congratulations to Alex Lilley and Alex Lees who also made their Yorkshire first-class debuts against Durham MCCU. Let's hope there's plenty more to come from them all!

And the lad can play too, taking an absolute corker for his first ever catch in first-class cricket - see above and in the photo gallery as he pouches Luc Durandt off the bowling of Oliver Hannon-Dalby. I'm actually pretty chuffed I caught this little moment of history on film.
