Old campaigners Alex Morris and Andy Cook carried all before them as the British Fire Service overwhelmed a very young Yorkshire Academy in their one-day friendly at Streethouse.

The early morning mist cleared. The Acxademy won the toss, decided to bat, and lost the early wicket of Ben Elvidge, caught behind with the total on four.

Johnny Booth and Jack Leaning put on 53 in 10 overs before Booth was another victim of wicket-keeper Joyce. Leaning played a positive innings with skipper Jack Hughes - but Leaning went at 119 and Hughes at 126, two more scalps for Joyce, who was to account for five of the nine wickets to fall.

Opening bowler Keith Newbold had an economical eight-over spell, conceding only 23 runs, and took a catch low down at mid-off to account for Josh Shaw - but Leaning's excellent 54 in 76 balls, Hughes's 33 in 40 balls and Jonathan Tattersall's 26 plus the 16 wides saw the Academy reach 191-9 in their 40 overs.

The hoped-for early breakthrough never happened as the ex-Hampshire and Barnsley player Alex Morris and Andy Cook shared an opening stand of 176.

The Academy used 10 bowlers, but the only wicket to fall went to spinner Tattersall. A wrist injury to Curtis Free did not help, but it was a case of two experienced players commanding the play: they plundered 23 fours and seven sixes to run home with nine overs to spare. Cook reached reached his century with the last ball of the match.
