Callum Geldart 117 helps Academy to No.2 spot

A patient 117 from Callum Geldart, above, helped Yorkshire Academy to an 81-victory over Doncaster and second place in the Solly Sports ECB Yorkshire County Premier League.
A superb day for cricket, an excellent pitch, a good crowd and a very, very pleasing result if you were an Academy player or supporter.
Blue skies at Weetwood welcomed Doncaster - who lost the toss and saw the Academy make a steady start. A calling error when going for a third run at 17 saw both batsmen at one end and Alex Lees stranded. A partnership off 51 by Geldart and Irfan Amjad saw a recovery, but Amjad was well caught low down by skipper Andrew Parkin-Coates.
Enter Jack Hargreaves, who this season is becoming a useful all-rounder: he and Geldart shared a partnership of 117, batting well and running well between the wickets until a good leg-side stumping by Australian Chris Spinella saw Hargreaves return to the pavilion with the score on 185-3.
Callum scored a patient century before falling to veteran left-armer Jones. Academy skipper John Blain, batting at No.9, was not out at the close with 16 off 10 balls, and the Academy finished on a more than useful 241-7.
Doncaster lurched to 77-6 after tea, with Blain 3-18 and Hargreaves 3-14, and the Academy cruising to victory. Prolific Parkin-Coates managed only eight and James Stuart two - both well caught by wicket-keeper Barney Gibson, aged 14.
Only Chris Spinella showed any promise with the bat - but when he was on 55 he skied one to mid-wicket and Hargreaves took a superb catch off left-arm spinner Gurman Randhawa, who gave little away and finished with the excellent figures of 3-29 in 6.3 overs.
A fine complete win, which saw the Academy take eight points and go to second place in the Solly Adams Yorkshire Premier league.
