Captain's innings: 47 by Alex Lees complemented the work of the seamers

A captain's innings of 47 by Alex Lees, above, and fine work by the seamers helped Yorkshire Academy to a five-wicket and eight-point victory over Doncaster Town in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League.

Lees won the toss, put Doncaster in, and his seamers made early inroads. Moin Ashraf accounted for openers Gareth Cox and Chris Spinella, and experienced skipper Andrew Parkin-Coates fell to David Girling. Graham Attenborough was lbw to Alex Lilley.

At 18-4 Doncaster were struggling, but Amit Kundra and Felix Odell put together a stand of 82 before Kundra was stumped by Chadwick off left-hand spinner Gurman Randhawa. Lees cleverly switched his bowlers: further wickets fell to Randhawa, and the last wicket went to Jack Hughes. Doncaster all out 126. Moin Ashraf had the excellent figures of 3-18, while Randhawa added three more wickets to his season's total.

The Academy made an equally poor start, both Callum Geldart and Hughes failing to trouble the scorer. Geldart was a victim of Curtiss Free, who was making his first-team debut, but not for the first time this year Lees held the batting together, and his 47 pushed the total on to 68-4.

Lees fell to spinner Silvester, as did Randhawa, who made a useful 15 before failing to clear deep mid-on, where he was caught by captain Parkin-Coates.

The Academy were 82-5 when Alex Lilley and David Girling came together for a stand of 45, which guided the Academy to a fully deserved eight-point victory. Only two Of the Doncaster batsmen reached double figures, and while fielding they were hampered by an injury to seamer Nick Morley. The Academy middle-order stood firm, and Lilley and Girling batted sensibly to see the side to victory.
