Carnegie beat Falcons to end t20 on high
Yorkshire sought and gained revenge for two earlier season defeats to Derbyshire this summer, a team Andrew Gale described a their ‘bogey team’, but the victory came in the last match for both sides in this years Friends Life t20.

Ben Sanderson was the star as his 4-21 stalled the Falcons to 127-7 with New Zealander, Martin Guptill scoring 46 from 39 balls. Yorkshire got off to a flyer thanks to Andrew Gale (30 off 22) and Joe Sayers (43 off 38) and Adam Lyth scored 41 from 32 balls to seal Yorkshire’s victory with 2 overs to spare and ensure that the Tykes finished above Derbyshire in 6th place in the Northern Division.
Guptill needed a runner towards the end of his innings. He was one of four wickets falling in 8 balls as the Falcons sought a competitive total. Richard Pyrah has impressed in recent weeks and he and Ben Sanderson denied Derbyshire the acceleration they required.
Derbyshire had lost Wes Durston and Greg Smith early in their innings, however Guptill (who drove Sanderson for six and Wayne Madsen (who reverse-pulled David Wainwright over deep cover for six) took charge as they added 58 in 10 overs for the 3rd wicket. Pyrah removed both in consecutive balls and then Sanderson also struck twice in two balls as he had Chesney Hughes caught behind by Gerard Brophy and bowled Jonny Clare.
Sanderson bowled Ross Whiteley (12 in 12) as the Falcons managed only 34 runs in the last 5 overs.
Andrew Gale took 18 runs from Mark Turner’s first over and the Tykes were passed fifty in the 6th over before Gale fell lbw to Whiteley for 30 in 22 balls. Joe Sayers, who had little of the strike early on, scored 43 off 38 balls when he was lbw to Chesney Hughes to make the score 95-2 after 13 overs.
Adam Lyth then took control as he hit Steffan Jones for 4 fours in the 18th over to ensure Yorkshire ended their campaign on a high and make their current run of form 3 wins in the last 3 matches as they head back into CB40 mode on Sunday against Middlesex.

MATCH PREVIEW
Yorkshire play their final game of the Friends Life t20 at Derby tonight knowing that Durham's victory over Northants last night has robbed them of any chance of qualifying for the Quarter-Final stage - it would have required a couple of freak results even without Durham's victory.
Andrew Gale leads the same squad that beat Durham at Scarborough on Sunday and will be playing for pride against the Falcons. A win could see the Tykes finish as high as 5th in the North Division. A defeat could see the White Rose county slip to 7th.
It's been a t20 season of ups and downs and Yorkshire will regret some poor performances and remember some excellent wins with a feeling of 'what might have been?'
Yorkshire have resisted the temptation to throw in a few youngsters for this dead rubber. Instead they look to build on recent wins in a bid to build momentum into Sunday's CB40 match against Middlesex and next week's Roses Championship fixture.
YORKSHIRE CARNEGIE SQUAD
Andrew GALE (c), Joe SAYERS, Adam LYTH, Gerard BROPHY (wk), Gary BALLANCE, Jonny BAIRSTOW, Adil RASHID, Tim BRESNAN, Richard PYRAH, David WAINWRIGHT, Iain WARDLAW, Ben SANDERSON and Joe ROOT.
