Carnegie's run of three successive Friends Provident t20 triumphs ended at Headingley Carnegie today when Richard Pyrah was caught on the long-on boundary instead of clearing the ring for the last-ball six that would have tied the totals.

Yorkshire made two changes to accommodate international players - but still lost by six runs to Leicestershire Foxes when Pyrah was caught by James Benning off the last ball from skipper Matthew Hoggard. It was Hoggard's first return to his old stamping ground as he came on to bowl the final over with Yorkshire 157-7 and still needing an improbable 19. 

It just about appeared on when Pyrah thumped the first two deliveries for two and six - but he and Adil Rashid could manage only four runs from the next three balls...which meant that Pyrah had to clear the rope for the points to be shared: he made a valiant attempt, swinging high and hard to wide long-on...but did not quite get enough distance, and Benning calmly held the catch a couple of yards inside the boundary.

Yorkshire brought back Jacques Rudolph after his recovery from a shoulder injury and Ajmal Shahzad, who had been released from England’s one-day squad. Out went wicket-keeper/batsman Gerard Brophy and off-spinner Azeem Rafiq.

Winning the toss in front of 3,520 on a glorious morning, Foxes were given a 55 start in nine overs by Brad Hodge and Benning before Adil Rashid claimed both on his way to a career-best 4-20. Hodge was magnificently caught at long-off by Adam Lyth - who caught the ball and lobbed it into the air before he stepped over the rope: he regained his balance, darted forward and finished the job.

Benning was lbw to Rashid for a watchful 41, and the leg-spinner’s two other scalps resulted from lbw decisions against Will Jefferson and Paul Nixon. Rashid’s four wickets were the only ones to fall as man-of-the-match James Taylor and Wayne White put on an unbroken 81 for the sixth wicket - Taylor making 62 with some adventurous and unorthodox strokes off only 28 balls with three fours and four sixes.

Yorkshire called upon seven bowlers, Rudolph and McGrath going for 13 and 12 off their solitary overs, while Taylor hit Patterson for two sixes and a four in an over which cost 21.

New Leicestershire paceman Nathan Buck sent Yorkshire off to the worst possible start by picking up three wickets in his first two overs - Lyth playing gently to cover, Herschelle Gibbs edging to wicket-keeper Nixon and Anthony McGrath falling lbw.

Skipper Andrew Gale, above, and Jacques Rudolph staged a recovery with a 53 stand before Rudolph was lbw to Benning for 21 - and soon afterwards Gale was unluckily out for a responsible 52 from 39 deliveries with five fours and a six: White hit the stumps with a direct hit which found the Yorkshire captain still out of his ground going for a second run - but indications were that bowler Claude Henderson may first have knocked off a bail with his hand.

Jonny Bairstow kept Yorkshire interested with a plucky 40 from 23 balls with four fours and two sixes before he fell to Josh Cobb - whom Shahzad then blasted for consecutive sixes but was caught next ball.

England's World Cup Last 16 match to be screened at Headingley Carnegie on Sunday at 3pm as the FP t20 match between Yorkshire Carnegie and Nottinghamshire Outlaws is moved forward to 11am.

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground will be screening England’s last 16 match against Germany on Sunday 27 June at 3pm.

England’s 1-0 win over Slovenia was marred by a late USA goal which meant England finished in second place in Group C and now face a mouth watering clash against the old enemy, Germany.

On a Sunday where England play Germany at football and Australia at cricket the Yorkshire players will be proudly showing their own support for their country by wearing the simple message COME ON ENGLAND on the front of their playing shirts. Even Tino Best and Herschelle Gibbs are becoming honorary Englishmen for the day!!

All of England’s World Cup group matches have been shown on the big screen at Headingley Carnegie to large audiences on the biggest static replay screen in UK sport at 102 square metres. The atmosphere in the ground has been fantastic.

On Sunday 27 June gates for football supporters will open at 1pm and fans who arrive early will be able to catch the final part of Yorkshire Carnegie’s FP t20 game against Leicestershire Foxes before the England game commences at 3pm.

YCCC cricket supporters should be aware that the Friends Provident t20 match between Yorkshire Carnegie and Leicestershire Foxes has been moved forward to a 11am start (originally scheduled to start at 2.30pm).

If anyone has previously purchased tickets for this game and cannot attend at the revised time they will be able to exchange their tickets for an alternative Yorkshire CCC match at Headingley Carnegie during the 2010 season. Cricket supporters wishing to remain in the ground to watch the England football match are welcome to stay.

Admission to watch the football is free after 1pm.

Advance ticket prices of £12 for adults and £8 concessions for the cricket are available either by telephone or in person between 8am and 9.30am on Sunday. Tickets are also on sale at Leeds Tourist Office and the Bradford Tourist Office all day Saturday.

After 9.30am (when the gates open) on Sunday normal gate admission prices will apply.
