CB40: Rain prevents any play against Steelbacks

Match abandoned as a no result due to rain. Each team takes one point each.

As garden parties for the Diamond Jubilee around Britain were confined indoors the CB40 match between Yorkshire Carnegie and Northants Steelbacks was abandoned without a ball bowled at 2pm after heavy rain.

It might be good weather for ducks, but they are not welcome in cricket and Yorkshire must now wait until 22 July when they take on Derbyshire in Chesterfield to get their CB40 campaign back on track.

MATCH PREVIEW

Yorkshire will be seeking to get one over Northants after dominating their LV= County Championship fixture over the last four days, but having to settle for a draw due to poor weather. A win against Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Headingley will build on a strong performance against Unicorns at Scarborough last week.

An unchanged squad has been announced for the Diamond Jubilee weekend fixture.

Gary Ballance has moved into fourth position in the PCA's CB40 MVP Rankings after his stunning 91-ball unbeaten 103 in Scarborough last weekend. The left-hander as scored 220 runs in 4 innings and averages 110.00 in 40-over action so far this summer.

Despite his Hove disappointments Mitchell Starc is Yorkshire's leading wicket-taker with 6 scalps at 22.50, but the evergreen Anothony McGrath boasts the best economy rate of 4.06 runs per over off his 96 balls bowled.

Yorkshire go into the fixture in fourth place in Group C behind Sussex, Warwickshire and Kent. A format that only guarantees reward to the top sides in each of the three divisions requires a winning run from the Tykes to maintain their interest. Northants are bottom of Group C with 3 defeats and a no result from their four matches so far.
