Yorkshire beat Derbyshire by 21 runs to top the North Group and ensure a home quarter-final on either 24 or 25 of July. The draw has pitted the Tykes against Worcestershire - two of the three sides never to make it to Finals Day will be competing to break their duck.

Asked to bat first by Derbyshire before a crowd of 3,200 expectant Yorkshire supporters, Adam Lyth and Phil Jaques added a record  opening partnership of 131 as the Tykes propelled their total to 180-5. It would secure a seventh victory this term by 21 runs.

After the six over powerplay the score was 57-0 and then Lyth reached fifty in 34 balls with 7 fours and one six. Jaques hit 64 from 47 deliveries and revelled in scooping Alex Hughes over the keeper for two boundaries.

The stand went past the previous best for the first wicket of 116, set earlier this season by Andrew Gale and Jaques against Leicestershire at Headingley, but Lyth was caught on the midwicket boundary by Wes Durston off Chesney Hughes for 78. Jaques followed in the next over when Knight had him caught at cow corner off Hughes for 64 which included 10 fours. David Miller and Joe Root contributed fine cameos.

At  99-6 Derbyshire looked doomed before Rana Naved attempted to frustrate his old team-mates as 68 were required from the last  five overs. He smashed Richard Pyrah for three consecutive sixes off the first three balls of the 16th over, one of which sailed over the Rugby Stand as he took 24 from the over.

With Garry Park he added 55 in four overs for the seventh wicket before Park was caught in the deep off Moin Ashraf who bowled Tim Groenewald two balls later.

Chris Durham, making his debut, faced five balls from Mitchell Starc but couldn’t get Rana on strike.

Naved ended unbeaten on 40 from 22 balls with four sixes as Derbyshire closed on 159-9. But Rana will be regretting an apparent miscalculation when he turned down a Durham single from the penultimate ball of Starc’s over believing it to be the last of the set.

It meant Rana was on strike requiring too many from the final over as his revival fell short.

Today is a day of celebration with Yorkshire already booked into the quarter-finals of this year's Friends Life t20 competition. But if Yorkshire can round their FLt20 campaign off in style against Derbyshire Falcons at Headingley this afternoon they will confirm a top of the table finish in the North Group.

Tickets will be available to buy on the day and this is a great chance to come along and show your support for a Yorkshire team who have been nothing short of magnificent over the last few weeks.

If Yorkshire win or have to settle for a no result or the Nottinghamshire Outlaws fail to beat Leicestershire Foxes at Trent Bridge then the Tykes will finish top and claim a home quarter-final on either 24 or 25 July.

In addition of Yorkshire lose, Notts win and Hampshire fail to beat Essex the Tykes will claim a home quarter-final by virtue of finishing as the best pointed second placed side.

Elsewhere Lancashire must beat third placed Durham to give themselves a chance of a best pointed third place finish. If Durham take the points they too will be hoping that Essex lose, otherwise it could be curtains for both teams.

Regardless of these permutations it has been the best Yorkshire performance in the ten year history of the competition. Their current run of six wins in six completed games is two better than they have ever managed before.

Derbyshire Falcons are out of the running for progression this year, but they'll be keen to end on a high and knock Yorkshire off their perch.
