I'm afraid this is a slightly sad story for a Friday ladies and gentlemen. However, the pub has been a very loyal supporter of the Yorkshire Pride Lottery and the fact that their collection of (largely YCCC-related) cricket memorabilia is being auctioned off is worthy of a story. The press release announcing the weekend's events is reprinted in full below. I would urge you all to get along if you can. It's a lovely pub.

It’s the end of an era at The Royal Shepherd pub in Canal Street, Skipton, this weekend, with the departure of the Hodgson family.

The pub has been run by Helen Hodgson since her late husband Tony died last June. They were Skipton’s longest serving licensees, having run The Royal Shepherd for 15 years after taking over from former hosts, Donald and Juanita Moorby, who had themselves been at the helm for 35 years and were also the town’s longest serving landlords by far.

Helen, her son Kristian and daughters Louise and Katie, are making the most of their final weekend with a series of farewell events.

Tonight (Fri Jan 27th), local trio ‘Undercover,’ who have regularly played at the Shepherd for Tony’s birthday, will be making a live appearance, to be followed on Saturday by Chas and Warwick’s disco who will be providing the entertainment at the family’s official leaving party.

During Saturday night a charity auction of pub memorabilia will be staged, with proceeds in aid of Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope.

It will incorporate displays of old Skipton photographs and cricketing mementoes, including signed cricket bats and prints, collected by Mr. Moorby, which were retained and added to by Tony. Simon Smith, of Skipton, will act as auctioneer.

The pub’s final quiz night will take place on Sunday.
