DRAX CUP: Finals Day at Headingley on Wednesday
News categories
Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground plays host to potential future stars of the game on Wednesday 25 July as Primary school teams representing the four counties of Yorkshire compete in the finals of the 2012 Drax Cup.
The players take to the pitch prior to the Yorkshire Carnegie v Worcestershire Royals Friends Life t20 quarter-final and will be hoping to emulate the batting and bowling skills of their idols.
The four finalists are:
- Rawdon St Peter’s Primary School, Leeds
- Driffield Junior School
- Bedale Primary School
- Herringthorpe Junior School, Rotherham.
The Drax Cup is the biggest Under 9s cricket competition in the country and is sponsored by Drax Power Limited as part of its Cricket In The Community scheme which provides cricket coaching to schools and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with Yorkshire Cricket Board and Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
Matches commence at 10am with the final scheduled for 11am and Yorkshire skipper Andrew Gale will present the trophies at 1.30pm in the Long Room.
The forecast is good for Wednesday, but if there is bad weather the matches will be switched to the indoor cricket courts at Soccer City, 1 Benyon Park Way, Leeds, LS12 6DP.
Good luck to all four teams. We hope you enjoy your day at Headingley.
