ECB provisionally clear Jaques on British passport

Jaques smashes a boundary for Hobart in Big Bash

Yorkshire CCC received provisional permission from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today (Thursday) to play Phil Jaques as a non-overseas player on a British passport.

Jaques, who has British parents and holds dual Australian and British nationality, signed for Yorkshire in November as an overseas player. He has since retired from playing Australian cricket, playing his final game for New South Wales in December.

The provisional status of the clearance relates to two clauses. The ECB want Jaques to attend an interview at Lord's and also want him to pledge to stand by his retirement from playing cricket in Australia.

The Club is now able to make a decision on whether it wishes to sign another overseas player and, if so, if there is someone suitable available that will add quality to the existing squad.
