Top scorer on a bad day: Callum Geldart, who compiled 30 while Yorkshire Academy collapsed in the face of poor shot selection and fine bowling

Callum Geldart, above, scored 30 as Yorkshire Academy were blown away for 67 and lost their Solly Sports ECB Yorkshire County Premier League match at Harrogate by seven wickets.

A disappointing result - but one that was not fully unexpected, writes JOHN BLAIN. Our lowly total was due to a couple of reasons, such as poor shot selection but mainly fine bowling from Vic Craven and Biker.

We won the toss and elected to bat on a good Harrogate wicket, but not even a slight rearguard action by Jack Hughes could help us.

The start of Under-16 and Under-17 matches during the week and players taking their school examinations took their toll - plus calls to the Second Eleven, which been averaging five a week. All these ingredients can add up to fatigued young cricketers in July and August.
