Alex Lilley ran amok with 5-9 as Yorkshire Academy rolled over Driffield by nine wickets in the Solly Sports ECB Yorkshire County Premier League and notched up another eight-point triumph.

Academy skipper Alex Lees lost a toss he would have preferred to win on a very hot day at Driffield, and led his side on to the field hoping for an early break. Lilley opened the attack with Moin Ashraf - and by his second over he had two back in the hutch: opener Will Norman was lbw, and Johnny Bairstow was caught by Jack Hughes at mid-off when the Yorkshire first-teamer got a leading edge. 6-2.

Great...Moin had Ben Kohler-Cadmore caught by Ashley Robinson, and it was 7-3. Skipper and opener Sam Drury had just reached double figures when he was bowled by Lilley - and Rob Drury lasted for two balls before he also was cleaned up by Lilley, who then had Olly Grantham caught by Lees. Lilley reached the end of his spell with the excellent figures of 5-9.

Nick Hardgrave and Danny Brumpton put on 27, but the Driffield respite was brief: David Girling replaced Moin Ashraf - and combined with Barney Gibson, who caught both Hardgrave and Brumpton. The Driffield tail failed to wag, and they were despatched for 59.

The Academy's opening partnership had reached 11 when Callum Geldart fell - Brumpton taking a fine catch low down at first slip off Ossie Ezard, but skipper Lees stood firm, as he has so often before this season. Irfan Amjad took 27 balls to get off the mark, but neither was seriously troubled. Lees was undefeated at the finish with 36, including seven fours.

Irfan Amjad, 10 not out, and Lees had a partnership of 52. Driffield tried seven bowlers, but failed to prevent the Academy from gaining another eight-point victory. Coach John Blain must be very pleased with the performances of his quicker bowlers in the last two League matches.
