Melbourne Storm legend in awe of Headingley

Australian Rugby League player Cameron Smith, who plays for Melbourne Storm against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley on Friday in League's World Club Challenge, was in awe of the famous Headingley Cricket Ground when he saw it for the first time earlier this week.
As an Australian, he knows a thing or two about the sport and, of course, his country’s long association with Yorkshire’s evocative stadium.
Sir Donald Bradman’s unbeaten 334 in 1930, another triple ton just four years later. Perhaps we won’t mention Ian Botham.
But for the Melbourne Storm captain, making acquaintances with the grand old lady is certainly one of the added bonuses of his club’s World Club Challenge against Leeds Rhinos, taking place over the other side of the main stand tonight.
“I’m a huge cricket fan and have been ever since I was a little kid,” enthuses Smith.
“It’s unbelievable and just a great opportunity to come see such an historic ground.
“Walking round the members’ stand with all the history here – and not only all the cricket but the rugby league too – is great.
“I just want to take this one back and tell the oldies about it as we sat down as a family and watched Test matches at Headingley.
“It’s nice to be able to put my two feet on such historic grass...with these studs. That’s why I’m trying to stand right round here on the boundary.”
As the legendary hooker poses for more pictures he is asked whether he was a batsman or a bowler?
“Bit of an all-rounder really,” he smiles, you sense only half-jokingly.
