Originating in 1922 as a series of sporting competitions for children in Yorkshire, the event was resurrected in 2008 and has been drawing in crowds of families ever since.
Sponsored by Yorkshire Bank, the family partner of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, the event brought together families from across Yorkshire for a fun-filled day of free activities on the cricket and rugby pitches.
Celebrities including chef Brian Turner MBE and actor Matthew Lewis (more commonly known as Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter films) also made appearances.
Children enjoyed traditional activities from bouncy castles to face painting, while Brian Turner was on hand to supervise those with serious kitchen skills in the Yorkshire Bank Cook Off Challenge! Anita Parmar stepped up to the plate, dashing off an omelette in an impressive forty-seven seconds and winning a Yorkshire County Cricket Club shirt and a signed Brian Turner cookbook.
Brian said: 'The Yorkshire Bank Cook Off Challenge gave me a great reason to take part in Children's Day. Having grown up in Leeds, I know what a special occasion this has been traditionally, so it was great to see it being resurrected to its former glory.”

The day also boasted a large number of exciting sporting activities: the ECB’s Cricket Factory gave children the chance to hone their batting, bowling and fielding skills. Clydesdale Bank were also present in partnership with Yorkshire Bank to let people know about their Howzat! campaign, which is giving local cricket clubs the chance to win £1,000 simply by uploading their best ‘Howzat’ appeal to Facebook at www.facebook.com/ClydesdaleBankCricket.
The day was finished off by an all-star rugby match between the cast of Emmerdale and the Leeds Rhinos. The Rhinos won the day despite valiant efforts from the actors! With free activities and gifts for all, the day was a real success and most importantly a great day out for families across the region.
