Northants next up for Yorkshire
News categories
After their exploits in the Barbados T20 Cup, Yorkshire turn their attentions to two-day cricket when they take on Northamptonshire at Windward CC starting on Tuesday March 19.(10.00am. local).
A number of players that featured in the T20 competition have been rested including front line bowlers Ryan Sidebottom, Liam Plunkett and Moin Ashraf. The match against Northants will give Andrew Gale and the coaching staff the opportunity to take a look at new signing Jack Brooks, who is included in the side and will share bowling duties with Steve Patterson, Iain Wardlaw and Academy prospect Will Rhodes. There is also a chance for Gurman Randhawa to establish himself as one of Yorkshire’s spin options going into 2013.
In the batting department, Alex Lees and Jack Leaning are drafted in alongside established batsmen Adam Lyth and Andrew Gale. Dan Hodgson will assume the wicketkeeping duties.
Yorkshire will rest spinner Azeem Rafiq, who is still recovering from a bruised finger and Andrew Hood will sit out of the game after sustaining a knee injury keeping wicket in the T20 defeat to Nottinghamshire on Sunday.
“After our efforts in the T20 competition, we are looking forward to playing the two-day game,” said first team coach Jason Gillespie.
“The players that are coming in are ready and looking forward to making an impact against Northamptonshire. We will play positively and look to excel in all departments. It is important for the full squad to get a hit out and play some good cricket.”
