Pakistan take glory at Headingley Carnegie
Australia 88 & 349; Pakistan 258 and 180-7 won by 3 wickets and secured victory in a Test Match against Australia for the first time in 15 years.
POWER CUT FAILS TO STOP PLAY AT HEADINGLEY CARNEGIE
The Emergency Response Team was called together at Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground today when a power cut stopped the supply of electricity into the ground for approximately 40 minutes.
An underground cable fault cut off power to the Headingley area of Leeds. Yorkshire Electricity subsequently identified the fault and successfully bypassed the problem.
Play remained uninterrupted in the 2nd MCC Spirit of Cricket Test Match between Pakistan and Australia, broadcasters were unaffected and although the two scoreboards were out of action the PA announcer was able to provide end-of-over updates to the crowd.
We would like to thank spectators, members of the media and staff in the ground for their patience and support during this period.
Australia are 136-2 at stumps on day two and trail by 34 after posting 88 in their first innings and bowling Pakistan out for 258. Ricky Ponting has scored Test run number 12,000 in his 61 not out and is building a steady partnership with Michael Clarke.
A fantastic day's cricket ends with Pakistan firmly on top at Headingley Carnegie. The Australian batting and bowling suffered for most of the day as Pakistan finish on 148-3 and a 60 run lead.
65mm of rain fell overnight, but after a tremendous effort from Andy Fogarty and his team of groundsmen the match commenced on time at 10.30am. That was great credit to the groundstaff and also the new drainage system at the ground.
Earlier Ricky Ponting had paid tribute to Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground when he said there were: "Nice new facilities and it took some getting used to with the changing rooms down the other end, but the ground looks terrific."
