Plunkett helps team to Grand Final

In our latest edition of Liam Plunkett’s exploits Down Under, Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy coach Shaun Seigert reveals how Yorkshire’s new signing helps Adelaide Uni reach a Grand Final.
Last week was a quieter week for Liam after his trip to Melbourne, where he had a solid week both batting and bowling.
Most of the early part of the week was recovering after the weekends cricket, allowing his body to rest.
Come Wednesday, Liam had a good work out in a centre wicket training regime, where he bowled about eight overs, and when batting using half of Derbyshire’s Ross Whiteley’s time because of his two dismissals, plus his own allocated time slot. Smart cricketer always looking for an opportunity to get extra.
Thursday saw Liam doing shuttles as the temperature started to bump up around the century mark, followed by a hit in the nets.
Saturday saw the completion of his Grade Club University’s two- day game against Adelaide (home of Yorkshire Coach Jason Gillespie), come to a completion. Defending a score of 175 the University “Blacks” failed to bowl out Adelaide to record a win. Liam had a solid day out with the ball in temperatures over the century mark – his figures 26-6-51-3.
On Sunday in the Semi Final of the One Day Competition, Liam’s team played Sturt CC in sweltering conditions on their home patch.
University, without their State players’ Christian, Mennie and Cooper, managed 171 and were bowled out in the 47th over with Liam getting 15 dismissed by a left-arm chinaman spinner. The bowling of University proved too good bowling out Sturt for 115, with Plunkett leading the way taking 3 for 37 off his 10 overs. The “Blacks” have now booked a place in the Grand Final on Adelaide Oval in a fortnight, against last year’s Champions Tea Tree Gully, who boasts teenage batting sensation and South Australian Redback player Travis Head.
