Pyrah is April's Macmillan Man of the Month
Richard Pyrah is the inaugural winner of the Macmillan Man of the Month Award for his tremendous performances in all forms of the game during April.
Richard started the season hoping for a run in 4-day cricket to shed himself of the tag of a one-day specialist and took the opportunities presented by the absence of Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad with both hands.
A career best first-class 3-36 was followed by 3-70 in the Championship against Durham where he also made a Championship best 87 to almost save the game on the final day. He then enhanced his career best bowling figures in an innings (5-58) and in the match (8-131) against Nottinghamshire at Headingley. In the CB40 he took 1-31 and scored a one-day best 69 which nearly took Yorkshire Carnegie to an unlikely victory over the Netherlands.
Pyrah received the award from Martyn Moxon during the lunch interval in Wednesday's play at Headingley and threw down his crutches to take the prize. He is currently rehabilitating after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's match against Kent, but can be very proud of his summer so far. He is expected to return to 1st Team action in a few weeks for Yorkshire's t20 campaign.
The award is donated by Macmillan Cancer Support, an Official Charitable Partner of YCCC, and is chosen on the Official Yorkshire Twitter feed where points are awarded for the Yorkshire Macmillan Man of the Match in every 1st XI game.
