Root and Bairstow selected for New Zealand

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow have been announced as part of England’s Test and ODI squads for the upcoming New Zealand series in March, with Jonny also joining the t20 team for the tour.
Yorkshire seamer Tim Bresnan will return to the UK to consult specialists regarding his elbow injury and his availability for the remainder of the winter will be determined following medical advice. Chris Woakes (Warwickshire) will replace Bresnan in the squad.
National Selector Geoff Miller said: “We have a busy international summer ahead of us and the medical team felt this was an ideal opportunity for Bresnan to take some time out to ensure his elbow is functioning effectively.”
He added: “Joe Root has been named in the one day squad which will provide him with an opportunity to experience international limited overs cricket in different conditions as we continue our planning for the ICC Champions Trophy.”
Nottinghamshire’s James Taylor will replace Root as captain of the England Lions squad for the limited overs tour of Australia, a team that includes Yorkshire’s Gary Ballance.
England last travelled to New Zealand for a Test series in 2008, winning the three match series 2-1. This year, the series will begin in Dunedin on March 6th.
