Royals gain New Road t20 revenge

Andrew Gale's blistering 54 was top-class at the top of the order

Yorkshire could have reached 3rd place with a win at New Road, but it is Worcestershire who find themselves in the top-four in the North Group after a 41-run victory.

Yorkshire never really got as they chased 184 to win and poor shot selection, the spin of Shakib Al Hasan (4-31) and recent baggage of failing to chase totals all contributed to their downfall. They were bowled out for 142 with 7 balls remaining.

Alexei Kervezee and James Cameron hit their highest t20 scores and Moeen Ali hit 40 from 20 balls to add early impetus as Worcestershire posted a better than par 183-7 on a good sunny day for batting. Worcestershire are a different side to the one well beaten by Yorkshire in the opening Championship fixture of the summer. Confidence is high after learning to win in recent weeks.

Kervezee (56) and Cameron (55) hit a combined 9 fours and 4 sixes in a stand of 77-runs from 50 balls as the Royals took control. Ajmal Shahzad took 3-30 and Pyrah 2-36.

Yorkshire appeared to take one look at the scoreboard and let panic set in. Jonny Bairstow (1), Andrew Gale (20), Anthony McGrath (4) and Adam Lyth (12) all went within the powerplay overs.

It fell to Gary Ballance and Joe Root, who both scored 26, to mount a recovery as they had done against Derbyshire in the previous week, but the run-rate mounted and Shakib weaved his magic.

Tim Bresnan ensured the margin of defeat was no greater with a quickfire 25, but Yorkshire were always short. Gareth Andrew (3-17) added the full-stop to the 41-run Royals win.
