Spinner could be washed out four days on bounce

Gurman Randhawa: The rain at Harrogate means that the left-arm spinner's cricket could be washed out on four successive days

The second day of Yorkshire's three-day Second Eleven Championship match against Leicestershire at Harrogate was called off at 9.30am today - and so was tomorrow's. And this on top of Tuesday's total abandonment of the Second Eleven Trophy game between the two sides.

Scorer and YCCC Website Correspondent HOWARD CLAYTON writes: When is the Second Day of a match really the Third? Answer - when it is summer in England and our traditional climate does its worst. The three-day game at Harrogate was officially abandoned at 9.30am today, and all the players headed home. Yorkshire considered transferring to Weetwood for some outdoor practice - but that ground resembles a lake.

The players have now had exactly 86 overs of play at Marton CC on Friday, April 13...and that is it for April 2012. They meet again next week at Stamford Bridge from Tuesday for a four-day friendly against Lancashire. Is there such a beast? They will play under County Championship guidelines with a minimum of 96 overs per day, start at 11am and a close 6pm, sessions two hours in length.

The original Yorkshire line-up for Harrogate was: A McGrath, AZ Lees, A Lyth, CJ Geldart; A Rafiq, GL Brophy (wicket-keeper), AE Lilley, I Wardlaw, GS Randhawa, OJ Hannon-Dalby, MA Ashraf and DF Girling (12th Man).

Missing for the three-day Championship game was Iain Wardlaw – who travelled south with the first-team squad for the return clash with Kent. Jack Leaning is back from Queensland with England Under-19s, so he joined Yorkshire Seconds.

Harrogate CC remain fearrful that Saturday's Yorkshire League fixture against Rotherham Town will go down the plughole, which will mean that left-arm spinner Gurman Randhawa, above, will have turned up at the ground on four consecutive days to no avail.

The Second Eleven scores will be available again this season on match days via Total Cricket Live Scores. Here's how to keep up with scorer and website correspondent HOWARD CLAYTON:
