Squad say cheese at Press Day as season approaches
The Yorkshire squad were in understandably jubilant mood at Headingley today as they posed for photos and talked to the assembled media ahead of the season start next week.
Andrew Gale said his side were 'in a good place', Ajmal Shahzad told me he has overcome an ankle injury which saw him play through the pain barrier last summer and Richard Pyrah was all smiles after the recent arrival of twin girls and said that if Yorkshire continue to work and play hard they could win all three available trophies in 2012.
Andrew Gale was flanked in the squad shots by Jason Gillespie and Martyn Moxon and when the coaches were removed to allow photographer Vaughn Ridley to snap the players only the skipper found his newly appointed vice-captain Joe Sayers as his right hand man.
The squad was pictured with the Barbados Twenty20 Cup trophy, won last week at the Kensington Oval, and are determined to keep the good work going.
A number of the assembled media commented to me that they'd never seen a Yorkshire squad in such good and positive spirit. It was no surprise to me after seeing them exactly like that throughout the fortnight in the Caribbean.
Ther performances out there were nothing short of excellent and now the job of Moxon, Gillespie, Gale et al is to continue the positive mood into pre-season away friendlies against Derbyshire and Durham and into the season proper which starts on 5 April at Headingley with the visit of Kent in the LV= County Championship.
Good luck to all of our players and coaches for the 2012 summer!!!
