Tykes can capture silverware in 2013

Martyn Moxon is confident that the class of 2013 can challenge for honours in all forms of the game.

With the first team squad back in the full swing of training and preparation at Headingley, Moxon believes that the current squad, with the influx of new signings Liam Plunkett and Jack Brooks to strengthen the bowling department, will have a real chance of landing the ‘holy grail ‘of the County Championship on the Tykes return to the top flight of English cricket in their 150^th year.

“The players are training hard and there is a real buzz about the place - 2013 can be a big year for the club,” said Moxon, who is finalising the team’s plans ahead of their pre-season trip to Barbados in March.

“Our aim is to build on our success of last season and improve in all areas. I feel we have recruited well and now have a squad, with a sprinkling of youth and experience, to compete with the very best in the country.”

With Yorkshire reaching a major milestone of their 150^th year, Moxon and first team coach Jason Gillespie are well aware of the expectations and the significance of 2013, and are geared to creating their own piece of history this term.

“We all know that it will be harder this year as we make the step up and we are well aware of the expectation level amongst the members and fans around the county,” added Moxon. “Ultimately we will continue to challenge ourselves, both as a staff and a squad, to be successful.

“It is a momentous year with the anniversary and it is our intention to make our own history. We have a squad capable of that. Hopefully in a 150 years’ time they will look back on 2013 as a historic year for Yorkshire cricket with some silverware in the cabinet to make it even more extra special.”
