Yorkshire players will honour Stott and Cope

A busy year of social activities for Yorkshire County Cricket Club Players’ Association begins with the customary winter reunion lunch at Fulford Golf Club, Heslington Lane, York, on Sunday, January 27.
The cost is £15 per person, and includes a half-bottle of table wine. Members should meet from noon, and the carvery lunch will be served at 1pm. Bookings should be made through association secretary David Ryder at Headingley by January 23 at the latest, and former players who are not yet involved in the activities are most welcome to attend.
It is now eight years since the association was formed, and chairman Neil Hartley says it is the committee’s aim to develop membership in order that as many as possible can enjoy what is hoped will be a broadening range of social events during the year.
The association’s annual general meeting will be held in the Cricket Centre, Headingley, on Sunday, April 7, at 11am, followed by a light lunch, and it has been decided that founder chairman Bryan Stott and secretary Geoff Cope should both be nominated for honorary life membership in recognition of their outstanding services to the association.
It is planned to hold the summer lunch at Headingley on Sunday, June 23, the third day of the LV County Championship match on the ground between Yorkshire and Surrey.
Golf event venues include Ripon Golf Club on September 30, when the Gibson Cup will be competed for, and Pannal Golf Club on October 9, both dates to be confirmed. The players’ awards dinner in September 2012 was a big success, and inquiries are being made to see if it will be possible to hold a similar event in 2013.
