Yorkshire sign Tino Best
Yorkshire CCC are delighted to confirm the signing of West Indian fast bowler Tino Best until the end of May, but might have to wait before he can erupt onto the county circuit.
Best, 28, played for Yorkshire against Lancashire on the Club’s recent pre-season tour of Barbados and impressed with his pace and figures of 1-12 from 14 overs. The coaching staff and captain, Andrew Gale, were also pleased by his obvious enthusiasm and eagerness to use a stint in English county cricket as the perfect way of raising his international profile. All of the necessary paperwork has been completed by the Club and Tino is booked on a flight to the UK this weekend. Whether he arrives in time to join up with the Yorkshire squad for the trip to Kent for the LV= County Championship match between 21 and 24 April will depend on the early resumption of international flights after the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland .
Best has claimed 28 Test and 13 ODI wickets, but his first-class credentials are more impressive with 221 wickets at just 26.98 runs apiece with a career best of 7-33. He played his most recent Test for West Indies in July last year and last featured in a One-Day International in September. Martyn Moxon , YCCC’s Director of Professional Cricket, said: “Tino was in good form on our recent Caribbean trip after he contacted us to ask whether he could net with the squad in Barbados . He fitted in really well, bowled with pace and in good areas in the match he played for us over there and his bubbly personality will be an asset in the dressing room. I’m looking forward to seeing his bowling cause problems for our opponents and I’m sure he will be a real asset to the Yorkshire side.”
