After scoring 266-4 declared at the end of day one, thanks to a 152-partnership between Alex Lees (100) and Andrew Gale (65), Yorkshire spent day two in the field at Windward CC against Northamptonshire and were rewarded with some discipline bowling.

Northants ended the day on 236 for the loss of 11 wickets (both teams agreed before the game that there would not be a break between innings) from 78.3 overs.

Yorkshire’s bowlers bowled with intent on a drying wicket, after heavy rainfall overnight ensured for a 30-minute delay to proceedings on day two.

The pick of the bowlers were Yorkshire's seamers with Jack Brooks leading the way with an aggressive spell against his former team with figure of two for 13 from 12 overs including six maidens. Steve Patterson bowled well with 13.3-4-24-2 and Scotland international Iain Wardlaw show his credentials bowling 14-6-32-2.

Particular attention should be given to leg spinner Adil Rashid who bowled 25 overs taking 4 for 82 including five maidens.

Northants never had a look in thanks to the White Rose’s brilliant fielding and superb line and length bowling. The standout batsman was young wicketkeeper Ben Duckett, who scored 56 and looked accomplished in the middle coming in at number eight.

With an hour remaining, play was abandoned due to rain but on this performance the Yorkshire players can be very pleased and now look forward to repeating their efforts against Nottinghamshire at Windward commencing on Friday.
