Young Cricketer of Year award for Adam Lyth

Adam Lyth: Southern Group's Young Player of the Year 2010

Yorkshire CCC Southern Group have named left-hand batsman Adam Lyth, pictured, as the winner of their Neil Lloyd Award for the Young Cricketer of the Year 2010.

The 23-year-old will receive his award when the Southern Group visit Headingley Carnegie on September 9 during the LV County Championship match between Yorkshire and Somerset.

Neil Lloyd was a Wakefield-born left-hander who played for Yorkshire Seconds and England Young Cricketers, but who died in 1982 at the age of 17 from an infection caused by a rare virus. Southern Group make their award to the most promising young Yorkshire cricketer who played in the First XI and was under 23 and uncapped at the start of the previous season.

Adam’s career really took off last summer when he was the first batsman in the country to complete 1,000 First Class runs. He finished up with 1,509 runs at an average of 52.03 to make him the most prolific scorer in the First Division of the Championship.
