PROFILE
After a stellar 2010 where Adam scored 1,509 Championship runs at 52.03 and was the first batsman in the country to complete 1,000 first class runs he found the going tougher in 2011. Second season syndrome saw him score 553 runs at 26.33 with six fifties and a best of 74 after he missed five matches when he was left out of the side.
He scored 314 CB40 runs at 28.54 with a best of 73 and 306 t20 runs at 25.50 apiece. He was named Yorkshire’s Fielder of the Year for 2011 and spent the first half of the winter in Australia recapturing his very best form.
A fluent and technically proficient left-handed batsman, Adam came of age in 2010 when given added responsibility at the top of the Yorkshire order in Championship cricket. Happy to attack the new ball and with an increased awareness of where his off-stump is, he almost reached the milestone before the end of May.
142 against Somerset at Taunton is now his career high. 133 away at Hampshire followed and his first Roses hundred from only 122 balls came in June. I?n the t20 arena, his 59 from 24 balls against Worcestershire Royals in June was ?s?i?m?p?l?y? sublime. He was named the PCA Young Player of the Year for 2010 and also picked up the Yorkshire Player of the Year Award.
Adam represented England at youth level, touring South Africa with the Under-16 side and was part of the England Under-19 trips to Malaysia and India, and the home series against Pakistan.
He made his 1st Team debut for Yorkshire in a Pro40 match in 2006, and his first-class debut in May 2007, against Loughborough UCCE. In the 2008 season, he scored 645 runs in the County Championship and ?won the Yorkshire CCC Young Player of the Year A?wa?rd. He was named in England's 2009 winter performance squad as one of the 'C' category players.
In 2009 his opportunities were fewer than he would have hoped for. Michael Vaughan returned to the Yorkshire side and kept Lyth out for the majority of the season - the youngster managing just 4 Championship appearances.
On 24 August 2010, Adam was awarded his county cap on his home ground at Scarborough. He was selected to tour with the England Performance Squad to Australia in 2010/11.
Adam’s challenge is to recapture the extremely high standards he set in the first half of the 2010 season. He certainly has the talent to do that.
