Fast bowler Iain Wardlaw has quite some story to tell! A fast bowler who bypassed Yorkshire’s age-group teams and their Academy system, he has been known to captain Andrew Gale for some time having played at the same league club, Cleckheaton in the Bradford League.

Asked to train with Yorkshire during the first half of 2011, he had to take holiday from his job in the accounts department of a graphic design company. But it was definitely worth it when he earned an 18-month deal.

That was extended for a further two years when he returned from Yorkshire’s Champions League t20 campaign in South Africa in October, 2012, where he claimed the prized scalp of Indian captain MS Dhoni.

Wardlaw’s career was given a further boost in the early stages of 2013 when he was called up to a Cricket Scotland training camp because he qualifies for them through having a Scottish father despite his Dewsbury roots.

There is every chance that the player, who made his first-class debut in a Roses Championship match, could go from office worker to international cricketer in the space of two years. And there will be few cricketers who can boast that claim to fame!

Wardlaw has a low slung action, from which he generates excellent pace. He is a particularly skillful bowler with the white ball in his hand - his main attribute being an accurate yorker.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

2010 - Took 7-56 from 14 overs for Cleckheaton in a Bradford League match against Undercliffe, helping to secure a five-wicket win. One of his victims was Ashley Metcalfe. Played for Yorkshire seconds in a two-day match against Lancashire in September.

2011 - Having been invited to train with Yorkshire during the early part of the year, he was offered a deal and replaced club team-mate James Lee on the county staff. Debuted for Yorkshire’s first team in a Twenty20 match against Nottinghamshire in July, taking two 2-17 from 3.1 overs. Made his Championship bow against Lancashire later that month, but was replaced midway through the match by Tim Bresnan.

2012 - Played two Championship, seven 40-over and three Twenty20 matches, including two CLt20s. Dismissed MS Dhoni against Chennai Super Kings in October.

2013 - Invited to train with Scotland at an Edinburgh training camp in January.
