PROFILE
James Wainman is a left-arm seam bowler who has yet to make his first-team debut for the county. Educated at Leeds Grammar School, the 20-year-old has played Yorkshire age-group cricket from under 14s upwards.
While the Harrogate-born bowler has only ever picked up one five-wicket haul in Yorkshire colours - for the Academy in 2011 - his economy rate is a major asset. He often keeps a batting line-up tied down, regularly returning one, two and three-wicket hauls in the process.
To date, Wainman has taken 49 wickets in 35 matches for the White Rose Academy in the Yorkshire Premier League between 2010 and 2011.
He debuted for Yorkshire’s under 14s in 2007, going on to represent the under 15s the following year and the under 17s in 2010. Wainman has also played once for an England Player Development XI.
He signed a junior professional contract at Headingley in late 2011.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
2007 - Debuted for Yorkshire’s under 14s in a 45-over match against Durham in July before taking 2-23 from four overs with the new ball against Lancashire in a 45-over cup fixture later in the month.
2008 - Was a regular for the under 15s, taking three two-wicket hauls in nine matches, including one in a win against Lancashire at the National Finals in August.
2010 - Made his Yorkshire Academy bow in May before graduating through to second XI cricket in August - another clash with Lancashire in a one-day Trophy match at Crosby.
2011 - Played in an England Player Development XI side captained by current county colleague Alex Lees against the Unicorns, including Adil Rashid’s brother Amar, in a 45-over match in April. Took 5-27 from seven overs with the new ball in an Academy cup win in July. Former England international Anthony McGrath played in the same match. The Academy went on to win the cup in September, Wainman taking 1-33 from 10 overs against Scarborough in the 50-over final. Signed junior pro terms with Yorkshire a couple of months later.
