Moin Ashraf, a fast bowler championed for some time by ex-Yorkshire bowling coach Steve Oldham, has made an impressive progression into the county’s first-team plans during the last 12 months.

Born in Bradford, Ashraf took a five-wicket haul in only his second County Championship appearance during the latter stages of the 2010 campaign. But it is in Twenty20 cricket where he has arguably made his biggest impact.

Ashraf, who played for the county’s under 15s, 17s and Academy teams, made himself into an integral part of Yorkshire’s Twenty20 side during the most recent summer when they progressed to the domestic final and then to the Champions League in South Africa.

He took 17 wickets in 16 matches both at home and abroad, including an important 2-29 in a CLt20 qualifying win over UVA Next in Johannesburg.

His t20 performances also helped him secure a spot in the Championship team for the second half of the Division Two promotion push. He was also the subject of a parody Twitter account under the name of Official Moin Ashraf, which gained him worldwide notoriety.

Ashraf also undertook a charity Twitter auction for some signed memorabilia, raising in the region of £1,000 for the Children of Gaza appeal, during the latter stages of 2012.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

2007 - Played four matches for Yorkshire’s under 15s team, for whom his economy rates were most impressive.

2008 - Debuted for Yorkshire’s Academy before taking successive five-wicket hauls for the county’s under 17s in two-day matches against Worcestershire and Lancashire in August. Played in three of four matches as the Academy won the ARCH Trophy title in the United Arab Emirates in December.

2009 - Played three second XI matches for Yorkshire, including two three-dayers, aged 17. He took 4-32 in a Championship win against Leicestershire at Oakham in June.

2010 - More exposure to second XI cricket came his way, and he did not disappointment with 19 wickets from 13 matches across all formats, earning him a Championship debut in September as Yorkshire chased the County Championship title. Took three wickets in the match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge before returning to Headingley to face Kent in the last match of the season. He returned first-innings figures of 5-32 from 18 overs. His first-class debut had come against Loughborough University in May. Signed professional terms later in the year

2011 - He struggled to continue his fine form, and only took 13 wickets in the first team all summer. He did, however, earn a call-up to an England Development XI side to play Sri Lanka A in a one-day friendly at Old Trafford in August, claiming two wickets.

2012 - England Performance Programme trips to Sri Lanka and India either side of Christmas set him up nicely for the summer ahead. Although he did not force his way into the Championship team during the first half of the summer, he starred in Twenty20 and played a crucial part in the four-day promotion run-in. His Twenty20 figures of 4-18 against Derbyshire at the County Ground in June were a particular highlight, with his execution of yorkers near to perfection.
