PROFILE

For so long an incredibly valuable asset to Yorkshire in the coloured clothing, all-rounder Rich Pyrah used the summer of 2011 to show that he can be just that in County Championship cricket as well.

It is just hoped he can make a full recovery from a double hand break to regain his place and star in 2013 as the White Rose make an assault on their first Championship title since 2001, the same season he made his List A debut for the Yorkshire Cricket Board.

He is the proud owner of three first-class hundreds, including a stunning Roses ton at Headingley to nearly snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in 2011, and also has one five-wicket haul under his belt in the longer format.

Born in Dewsbury and schooled in Ossett, he is the current record holder for Yorkshire’s best bowling figures in Twenty20 cricket having taken 5-16 against Durham at Scarborough in the same season.

Added to his qualities with the bat and ball, he is also an exceptional fielder to boot.

After breaking his left hand in the opening week of the 2012 season in a fielding accident, he showed his commitment to the cause by coming out to bat in a plaster cast in an attempt to help avoid the follow-on against Kent.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

2004 -Scored successive centuries for Yorkshire seconds in three-day matches against Northamptonshire and the MCC Young Cricketers (107 and 115) in July. He was dismissed by current internationals Monty Panesar and Darren Sammy in both innings, but had done enough to secure a first-team debut in a 45-over match against Leicestershire at Grace Road in August.

2005 - Scored a crucial first-innings 78 from the middle order to help set up a County Championship win against Worcestershire at New Road as the Tykes gained promotion back to the top tier.

2007/2008 - Took 22 wickets in List A cricket in successive seasons, but his Championship appearances were limited. After that aforementioned Worcestershire match until the end of the 2008 summer, he only played in a further five Championship matches.

2009 - Clinched the man-of-the-match award in a thrilling two-wicket 50-over group win over Durham at Headingley thanks to 3-23 from seven overs with the ball and then anchored a nervy pursuit of 167 with 42 not out.

2010 - Claimed 41 wickets in both forms of limited overs cricket, including 21 in the Twenty20 competition as he became a valuable go to man for captain Andrew Gale through the middle overs of an innings. Awarded his county cap in August.

2011 - Played in eleven Championship matches, more than in any other season during his career, and took his first five-wicket haul in that competition as well as scoring his first hundred against Lancashire in July, a magnificent 117 to recover his side from 45-8 in the first innings. It came on the 30th anniversary of a similar knock from Ian Botham in the famous 1981 Headingley Ashes Test. Took 29 wickets and scored 376 runs in the Championship, and also claimed Yorkshire’s only five-wicket haul in Twenty20 cricket.

2012 - After starting the year with the incredible high of the arrival of twin daughters in his life, meaning he missed Yorkshire’s pre-season tour of Barbados in March, things went downhill rapidly. Two broken hands at either end of the season obviously disrupted his campaign. He described missing out on the Champions League t20 campaign in October as one of the biggest disappointments of his career.
