PROFILE

Ryan Sidebottom has been there, done it and bought the t-shirt! But there is no doubt that the experienced swing bowler is hungry for more success in his Yorkshire t-shirt over the next couple of years.

A winner of three County Championships with Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire (twice), he is the owner of 22 Test, 25 one-day and 18 Twenty20 international caps as well as a World Twenty20 winner’s medal.

Sidebottom, born in Huddersfield, is not a million miles away from claiming 1,000 wickets in all forms of professional cricket, and two stellar seasons in 2013 and 2014 could see him achieve that milestone.

He became only the eleventh England player to claim a Test match hat-trick whilst on tour in New Zealand in early 2008, taking ten wickets in the match at Hamilton and a superb 24 in a three-match series.

He returned to Yorkshire ahead of the 2011 summer following his departure from Notts, immediately after winning his second four-day title for them.

The son of former Yorkshire and England bowler Arnie, who also played football for Manchester United, Sidebottom junior is also a useful lower order batsman. Like father like son, he also impressed the football scouts of Sheffield United as a youngster.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

1995 - Played three matches for England under 17s in a one-day tournament in Holland in July.

1997 - After second XI appearances across three seasons for the White Rose, he debuted in both one-day and Championship cricket for his county, taking three wickets in the latter against Leicestershire at Grace Road in July.

1998 - Snared 6-40 in a 40-over win against Glamorgan at Cardiff in May, still the best figures of his List A career to date.

2000 - Became the 150th player to be capped by Yorkshire in July.

2001 - After taking 24 first-class wickets in each of the previous two seasons, he claimed 27 as Yorkshire won the County Championship title. He also made his Test and ODI bows for England against Pakistan in May and Zimbabwe on tour in October.

2004 - Having joined Nottinghamshire in November of 2003 in search of regular first-team cricket, he helped the Trent Bridge county to double promotion in Championship and one-day cricket.

2005 - Claimed 50 wickets in first-class cricket to become the Notts’ Player of the Year and help them to their first Championship title in 18 years, the second of his career.

2006 - Another 50 wickets followed, but he could not prevent four-day relegation for the East Midlanders.

2007 - Returned to England set-up for home Test series against the West Indies under the guidance of new coach Peter Moores, taking eight wickets in his comeback Test at Headingley. Claimed a further 21 Test wickets in matches against the WIndies, India and Sri Lanka in the calendar year. Also returned to ODI arena and made T20 international debut.

2008 - Dismissed New Zealanders Stephen Fleming, Matthew Sinclair and Jacob Oram to claim his hat-trick at Hamilton before taking five wickets in the second Test at Wellington and then career best figures of 7-47 at Napier. England won the series 2-1. Named as England’s Player of the Year.

2010 - Took ten wickets in the tournament and spearheaded the attack as England won the World Twenty20, including two in the final against Australia at Barbados in May. Also returned to county colours and won his third Championship title with Notts. Retired from international cricket and re-signed for Yorkshire on a three-year deal in October.

2011 - Led the Yorkshire attack expertly with 62 Championship wickets at 22, including a career best 7-37 in a final round win against Somerset at Headingley in September. Also scored a career best 61 on his second White Rose debut in the opening week win over Worcestershire at New Road in April. Could not prevent relegation, however.

2012 - Injury prevented similar success, but he still returned valuable contributions in the Championship and Twenty20 as promotion and qualification for the Champions League was achieved. Extended his Yorkshire contract until the end of 2014. His 3-13 was crucial to a qualifying CLt20 win over Trinidad and Tobago in October.
