David, known as 'Cecil', played for Cambridge University (1907-1908), Marylebone Cricket Club (1910/11-1922) and Yorkshire County Cricket Club from 1907 to 1921.
A right-handed batsman, Burton was Yorkshire captain between 1919 to 1921. His highest score, an unbeaten 142 was against Hampshire. His other century, 110, came against Leicestershire CCC.
His brother Claude Burton, cousin David S.G. Burton and uncle Arthur Trollope all played first class cricket.
