February 2012 Update
Notes from the Members’ Committee meeting held on Monday, February 20, 2012
Among the key issues discussed was the acquisition of Headingley Experience by Sodexo. The Committee expressed the view that there should be no increase in food and refreshment prices in the East Stand Long Room. The Club confirmed that while there had been a meeting with Sodexo executives no such decisions had been made.
There was a debate on the financial position of the Club, membership-renewal levels and ticket sales for the Test and One-Day International.
The major issue was the much publicised recommendations in the Morgan report on the possible restructuring of the domestic game. The Committee emphasised that the view of members, without exception, was that there should be no reduction in the County Championship.
For limited-over games there was a view that the format should match that played by the national team, 50 overs. There was no objection to 40 overs, only that it should be in tune with international competitions. It was unanimously agreed that the 2012 format for t20 was sufficient and that there was not the appetite in the cricket-watching community for more.
Dismay was expressed at the scheduling of fixtures in 2012 - and in particular that there would be almost two months in the middle of summer with no First Class games at Headingley Carnegie.
