Six schools took part in the competition held at Headingley Carnegie on 21 April with representatives from Leeds, York and Bradford.
The competition, which has been running for 12 years, has seen a number of different schools from our county visit the home of cricket to compete in the final, this year’s final will be on the 15th June at Lord’s. The criteria enables children with severe physical and learning disability to be involved in a competitive form of the game along with a feeling of excitement and achievement as they hit sixes and take wickets.
Umpires from the Leeds area officiated along with young leaders from Beckfoot School in Bradford which enabled the matches to run without any issues.
Martin Mansell from the ECB and Lord’s Taverners coordinates the whole national competition which takes in six national regions, this year through a volunteers link programme with BT the event has seen a number of personnel from within BT help coordinate each event.
At the presentation of the awards Stewart Regan the Chief Executive of the YCCC reiterated the support the county club and the county board put in to the event along with the continued involvement of all the schools involved, along with their teachers, helpers and support staff.
