YCCC Support Prince's Trust

Yorkshire's Jonny Bairstow presented the Young Achiever of the Year Award at the Celebrate Success Awards Evening on Thursday 12th November at Aspire in Leeds. The Celebrate Success awards celebrated the inspirational achievements of young people and the vital contribution of the Prince's Trust's volunteers, partners and supporters.

Candace Mohamed won the Young Achiever of the Year Award. Candace struggled at school due to dyslexia, was disruptive as a way of distracting attention from the fact she wasn't coping well and her relationship with her mother broke down. By the age of 15 she was selling drugs and lived on friend's sofas before moving in to a hostel, however, she was arrested and charged with drug dealing. Fortunately, she wasn't charged but she soon found herself with no real friends, no family support and found herself very depressed.

Candace joined the Team programme which changed her life. The residential took her away from her problems and she made new friends. Her two-week placement at the Hilton Hotel gave her the motivation to pursue a career in catering.

She now lives independently, is confident and is at college studying a professional cooking qualification. Candace dreams of becoming a cookery teacher.

 
YCCC are extremely proud to be supporting the Prince's Trust as stories like this just show what a worthwhile cause it is. YCCC are embarking on a 'Get Started with Yorkshire Cricket' programme which will help Young Offenders to gain qualifications and skills in cricket coaching which they may then use to help get them off on the right foot.
